Working on Bridge and Highway Expansion in Wilkes

Take note as you are traveling around Wilkes County of some bridge and road construction in the area.  Over the weekend, the N.C. Department of Transportation (DOT) closed Old Salisbury Road in the Hunting Creek area of Wilkes to repair a bridge near Hunting Creek Baptist Church.  The bridge repairs on Old Salisbury Road are schedule to be completed by April 26th of this year.  The road will remain closed until then.  Also, Carl Rose & Sons began work last week on the NC 18 Project.  Currently, tree removal and grading is underway for the widening of 3.3 miles of Hwy 18 North in Fairplains and Mulberry.  The $8.6 million project includes adding a turning lane to the two-lane highway from the Mountain View Road intersection in North Wilkesboro to the Yellow Banks Road intersection near Mulberry Elementary School and adding a turn lane at Mulberry Elementary School.  The Hwy 18 North Project is set to be completed by March 13, 2016.
