Possible Amendment to Littering Ordinance in Wilkes
Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11:56AM

Roadside litter has been an ongoing problem in Wilkes with discussions at County Commissioners' meetings about county ordinance, covered loads, and keeping the roadsides litter free.  At the County Commissioners' Meeting last week, County Attorney Tony Triplett told Commissioners they had an idea to follow what neighboring Surry County did.  Triplett said Commissioners could pass an amendment to change the definition of covered and uncovered loads to secured and unsecured to prevent solid waste from escaping.  The change has been adopted already by the Wilkes Planning Board.  Commissioners set a Public Hearing of the proposed amendment concerning hauling trash in the County for February 20 at 6:50pm preceding the County Commissioners' Meeting.
