Another Shooting Death in Wilkes

For the second time in a week, someone has been shot and killed in Wilkes; however, the latest shooting has resulted in an arrest. On Tuesday, August 7, just after 2pm, the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a man with a gunshot wound. The victim flagged down a driver and was picked up on Highway 18 South in Moravian Falls. The motorists called 911 while driving the victim to the 4 Brothers convenience store in Westwood Hills in Wilkesboro.  Law enforcement and Wilkes EMS met the driver and victim at the store. The victim appeared to have a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Wilkes EMS treated the victim and transported him to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. Late Tuesday night the victim, James Everette Bailey (age 46) of Moravian Falls, died from his injuries. On Wednesday, the suspect, Joseph Thomas McCracken (age 24) of Moravian Falls, was arrested and charged with Murder related to this shooting incident.
